Through its Women Resilience to Disasters (WRD) programming, with support from the Australian government, UN Women conducted a cross-border gender assessment in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
The WRD programme has trained women to act as first responders during disasters, form farming groups, and establish village savings and loan groups. The programme is being implemented by Foundation for Civic Education & Social Empowerment with support from Australian Aid and Christian Aid.
The programme emphasizes women’s economic empowerment, leadership in governance and peacebuilding, ending gender-based violence and strengthening gender-responsive disaster risk reduction measures.
